Questions

-Where will the Salem Summer Symposium be held?

The Symposium takes place in the downtown area of historic Salem, Massachusetts. Events will be hosted at various venues from Essex Street to Pickering Wharf.

-When will the symposium be held?

The Symposium officially beings Saturday, August 3rd with social events and gatherings, however, the primary workshops, rituals, and special events will take between Wednesday, August 7th to Sunday, August 11th. These are the dates of the events that Symposium Registration will cover.

-What kind of events will be included in the Symposium?

The Salem Summer Symposium will feature a variety of classes and workshops, as well as performance and social events. The Symposium welcomes and represents a variety of people from a variety of magical traditions. Our goal is one of bringing together people of various paths and experience levels to celebrate, share, and learn together.

-Does the Symposium do any charitable giving?

The Salem Summer Symposium will be donating a portion of its profits to The Witchcraft and Human Rights Network an organization which works throughout the world to educate and combat against human rights violations occurring as a result of witchcraft accusations. Certain events such as the screening of Haxan and Antilux at the Witch House will have $5 of each ticket sold donate towards this work. And we will be holding several raffles throughout the event (during our Welcome Dinner, the screening of Haxan, The Mercato Delle Streghe Witches' Market, and The Black Cat Cabaret) to raise additional funds for this charity.

If you are interested in donating items or services to our raffle please contact us HERE

-Will the venues be accessible to people with mobility concerns?

Almost every event will be accessible. Though for events such as the Feast of Diana, which is happening outdoors on grassy terrain, additional planning may be required by the attendee. If a particular event has any accessibility considerations or limitations we will provide those details in the individual event descriptions online and in the official program for the event. Though the venues for the Symposium are on average a 10-15 minute walk attendees with mobility concerns may want to plan ahead for transportation if needed, as the Symposium is unable to provide this.

-What are my options for lodging during the Symposium?

We have a block of rooms available at a discounted rate at the Hawthorne Hotel which will also function as our host hotel and welcome center for the event. There are many other lodging options available within the city including Hotel Salem and  Salem Waterfront Hotel. There may also be options for lodging in the neighboring towns of Peabody and Danvers, and AirBnB is available throughout Salem and in neighboring areas as well.

-Will there be a cost to attend the Mercato Delle Streghe Witches’ Market?

The Witches’ Market is free and open to the public, though we are asking attendee to consider making a donation to The Witchcraft & Human Rights Network Organization.

-Is the Symposium and all ages event?

The Salem Summer Symposium is intended for people 18 years and older. Attendees 16 years and older are welcome to attend if accompanied by a parent or guardian.

*The one exception to this is The Magical Treasure Quest event which is open to all ages.

-How long are the class/workshop sessions?

Classes and workshops will be between 60-120 minutes.

-How much time can I expect between classes in order to travel between venues?

In most instances there will be at least 30 minutes between classes and workshops for people to travel to each venue. We will also have a designated lunch and dinner period between events.

-I’m interested in volunteering, how can I do that?

We would love to have volunteers! All volunteers will be invited to attend the VIP Opening Dinner at the Hawthorne hotel, and the Occult Speakeasy Pub Crawl free of charge. They will also receive one free class admission, or equivalent refund on their general admission or VIP pass, upon successful completion of their shift per 5 hours worked. We will have volunteer applications available here beginning June 1st. All volunteers must be 21 years of age or older at the time of the event.
